It has now been 3 ½ years since we moved into the stunning mountain chalet in Whistler’s Emerald Estates – designed and built by Vlad Vit in 2003. Vlad’s design expertise has created the ultimate haven in which the novelty and breathtaking experience we wake up to each morning has not diminished.

From a form perspective, the home receives the most amazing reaction from our guests when they are greeted by four massive vertical logs in expansive common space and look out the 24 foot high wall of windows to enjoy the forests and Whistler mountains – it is all amazing. The use of large boulders in the wine room, the creative application of wood and stone throughout the home and with the stone walkway and the rock stairs outside – it is all most fitting for a mountain environment.

And the function of the home is of superior design. Built into the excavated rock face at the base of a 40 foot cliff, we have not experienced a single issue with drainage, leaks or shifting. The concrete envelope is solid and we have not seen any cracking, dampness or movement. The electrical work, the plumbing, large garage, the wide open concept wood stair case and ample storage space make the home beautiful and a functional home to live in.

Mr. Vit’s joint design and building expertise came together with the Emerald home and really shone in so many ways. We are so thankful that we had the opportunity to find and now live in this beautiful mountain gem.
